The city of Munich has a lot to offer to anyone who enjoys learning about another culture. The city is home to Marienplatz, BMW Museum, and Oktoberfest. Munich is home to 1.5 million inhabitants, and it is the 3rd largest city in Germany. Munich is located in the region of Bavaria, which is situated in the southeastern part of Germany. An important event that takes place in Munich is Oktoberfest. This festival takes place from September 17th through October 3rd. Oktoberfest is the world’s largest folk festival, and it attracts approximately 5 to 7 million visitors each year. The festival was originally created to celebrate the marriage of Prince Ludwig of Bavaria to Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen, since then the festival has grown to include rides, games, music, and beer. Munich is famous for their large soft pretzels, which are the staple of Bavarian cuisine. These large German pretzels are called Brezel or Breze. They are often consumed with a large cold German beer. Another traditional German food is Bratwurst. This sausage is usually made from pork, turkey, veal, or beef.
